This birch wood has a stunning tan color with soft pink undertones and hints of dark contrasting veins. We found ONE board of birch in the stack we picked through underneath an old barn. Once the board was plained (aka sanded), and the top layer removed this beautiful coloration was revealed... I was obsessed. I wish there was more. 
Because the wood is limited and therefore, very precious, we wanted to create a frame that had just as much impact. Dad designed and finely crafted this frame, and then we had an accident. We dropped and broke a different frame. Now, having an extra sheet of glass, we had an idea. Create our own double glass frame. The double glass gave us the wonderful ability to show off the edge of this unique handmade paper that the Magnolia flower was printed onto.  The clean and polished lines of the frame, the natural feel and texture of the paper, and the beautiful layers of the Magnolia flower come together to create this beautiful and unique work of art. 
 
The story behind the "Magnolia":
Originally for a tattoo, and requested by a childhood friend. It is his grandmother's name, Magnolia, or "Maggie" for short. He knew he wanted it tattooed because she means so much to him. Knowing their relationship and the beauty of those trees and their flowers, I created this piece for him. Now it's available to you.
 
Using pen to create all of the details.  Each line captures the curves of the petals and the veins of the leaves. It is absolutely a classic beauty.
